Here’s some more about NerdyShirts.com, and the fine gentlemen that built this business:

In 2004, Myke and Jacob started NerdyShirts.com, an online T-shirt company based around an Internet culture where being a nerd was suddenly and strangely acceptable – even a little hip & jiggy. They originally launched the site without knowing much about T-shirt design and creation, or even about business in general. Initial design concepts were realized during late night brainstorming sessions, suggestions from friends, and random daily thoughts stemming from “Hey, we should make a shirt about ____!”

By taking the “hands-on, learn it the hard way” approach, they spent the next year and a half learning and growing NerdyShirts from a small startup in Myke’s bedroom into a full-fledged company with an office, order fulfillment team, and a full catalog of original, funny, nerdy, and nostalgic T-shirt designs.

NerdyShirts.com is now one of two product-oriented projects under the umbrella company of MyFatRobot, both aimed towards the Internet-savvy college market, which the team reaches through a variety of methods including Myspace marketing and blog advertising.

Rather than searching simply for “customer,” MyFatRobot hopes to convert Nerdyshirts buyers into “users,” by allowing them to submit their own tee shirt designs for consideration (they’re paid $200 per full design if it’s used), and even allowing the less artistic types to submit t-shirt slogans or concepts (for which they’re paid $50 if it’s used). A new shirt is chosen and released every Monday.
